Hello guys, you probably know that finding your bra size isn’t as easy as you once thought, including me. Bra size tend to change throughout your life due to some reasons such as fluctuating weight and having children. In this article we’ll help you to find your perfect bra size!

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BRA SIZE IN 3 EASY STEPS

There’s much more than just grabbing a measuring tape and writing your band size. In the next three steps, we’ll tell you how to measure band size, bust size, and lastly, your cup size.

At the end you’ll get to know whether to keep or donate those bras in your closet!

Step 1: Find Your Band Size

First of all, make sure you wear a comfortable bra which has to be lightly-lined and unpadded before you measure your band size. Take a measuring tape and wrap it around your back. Keep it parallel to the ground and measure it directly under your bust. Round down to the nearest even number and note down your band size.

Note: All the numbers of bras are in even numbers only.

Step 2: Measure Your Bust Size

Keep the measuring tape around your back at band level and measure across the fullest part of your breast. Make sure you hold the measuring tape properly against you and parallel to the ground. Adjust the tape till it gets in the most comfortable position (neither too loose nor too tight). If it falls on the half-inch, just round up. You’ve got your bust size!

Step 3: Determine Your Cup Size

Here things might get bit tricky because cup sizes may vary depending on the maker. The most common and preferable way to calculate your cup size is to subtract your band size from your bust size. By using the difference you can find out your cup size according to a bra size chart.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT BRA SIZE?

The straps should stay at their position without shifting on your shoulders. It should not leave any marks on your shoulder.

The band should sit properly against your back on any hook, ideally the loosest one. There should only be enough space to slide one finger underneath the band.

The cups should properly cover your breasts with no overflow or gaps.

The underwire should sit comfortably under your breasts.

Lastly, you should not feel any kind of pain or swelling while the bra is on.

SYMPTOMS OF WRONG BRA SIZE

The strain is felt at the rib cage, whereas the support should be through the lumbar (lower back).

The breasts seem to burst out from tight bras and constant struggling of the straps is required.

There is insufficient support to the breasts over the upper back and causes headache.

Stomach pain and tiredness also indicates bad back support.

Underwired bras are known to give great shape, support and lift to the breasts. But recently they have been found to be linked to breast pain, mastitis and allergies because of the direct skin contact with the metal wire when they become old.

RISK OF WRONG BRA SIZE

These are mainly skin complaints, especially in the under bust area.

The many proven risk factors for the occurrence of breast cancer definitely play a much more important role.

However, there can be no doubt that a well-fitting bra not only looks better and feels more comfortable, but also prevents the occurrence of any potential health problems which may be associated with a badly-fitting bra.

Back pain: It occurs in women mostly with large breasts and the bra is also of the wrong size. Wrong size bra puts much pressure on the chest and due to effect of gravity of heavy breasts women tend to stoop, which causes pain in the hip area. If the bra is tight it will exert pressure on the rib cage which can cause back pain.

Breast pain: It is the most common cause of wrong size bra. Tight fitting bras that are uncomfortable can lead to breast pain.

Shoulder and neck pain: The straps of tight bras create pressure on the shoulders. This strain from shoulder can go up to the neck causing severe pain. In many cases we can see marks on skin due to tight straps.

Blockage of the lymph nodes: Lymphatic vessels on the breasts are very thin, they can easily be compressed with constant pressure from tight fitting bras. This pressure can close the lymph valves and vessels. Not taking proper note of it can lead to serious muscle and organ issues.

Breast ligaments: Wrong size bra can develop the risk of irreversible damage to the breast ligaments, which can cause pain, and lead to sagging.

Sagging breasts: Can be a result of wearing a loose bra which spoils the size and shape of the breasts. Loose bras fail to lift the breasts and keep them in shape and make them heavier and tend to sag them. Nowadays, sagging breats is seen as a common problem for most women.

Skin problems: An improper bra size can cause blisters on the skin around the breast, especially when the size is small and it is very tight around the breasts. Also, the nipples which are the most sensitive areas of breasts show itching, swelling and pain.

If you have severe issues from wearing an improper bra it is advised to visit a gynaecologist.
